The Police Station

When the defendant arrives at the police station they can expect to experience various events.  Every police department establishes their own policies and procedures and may differ from neighboring departments.

The defendant’s possession may be placed in inventory.  There is a likelihood the defendant will be finger printed and photographed.  The police officer may place the defendant in a holding cell while they finish paperwork.  The officer may inquire again if the defendant wants to answer some interrogation questions.  The defendant should remain SILENT and again request to speak with an attorney

Most jurisdictions in the State of Washington will have an on-call attorney available to answer questions and / or provide advice.  They may not be available, but reasonable attempts should be made to place the defendant in contact with an attorney.  There are many rules regarding attorney contact in this situation.  For further information contact the attorneys of Kennedy & Berner, LLP for clarification.

Always remain calm and exhibit the very best manners with the police officer.
